🗝 The key to stepparenting sanity
Sustainable stepparenting is all about finding & maintaining your balance.
Here in the northern hemisphere, we’ve officially entered Pumpkin Spice Latte season, more commonly known as autumn — that annual reminder that yes, a happy medium does exist between summer’s heat and winter’s cold.
September is a time to rest and regroup: to catch our breath following the chaos of school starting, while also gathering ourselves before the stress of holiday schedules kicks into full gear.
Finding a balance between frantic seasons is key to achieving stepparenting peace. The balance between over-engaged and disengaged. The balance between boundaries and compromise. The balance between prioritizing our relationships and caring for kids.
If lately you’ve felt like you’ve veered too far in one direction, this is the perfect time to follow autumn’s example: pause a moment between the last thing and the next thing. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, then consider where you want to head next — which direction will help you regain your inner balance.
If you’re not sure where to start, let me know and I’m happy to share pointers and resources. You can reach me anytime by replying to any of my emails, or by leaving a comment on this post.

Thanks, fairly new to this after having only just moved in together but feel our relationship takes a back seat when my partners boys are over and the usual affection is minimal. His boys fight for his attention particularly the youngest who demands his every bit of attention
