We really, really wish you didn't have to be here

Welcome, I really wish you didn’t have to be here!

And frankly, I really wish Dan & I didn't know enough about parental alienation to host a whole workshop on it. But, you know. Here we are.

Our story, in the shortest possible version I can tell it, is that Dan’s ex was always difficult with periods of high conflict. Nothing that couldn't have been solved by Dan having better boundaries.

But then she wanted to move away with my stepdaughter and Dan wouldn't give his permission for the move. Practically overnight, like between one visitation and the next, my stepkid’s entire attitude toward us changed.

Over the course of the next several months (and honestly, the next several years), we learned way more about parental alienation than we ever wanted to know and now consider ourselves reluctant semi-experts. Yuck.

On the upside, if we can share some of that knowledge with you and help make your lives and your stepkids’ lives a little better for it, at least some good can come out of all the misery.

Here’s what we’ll cover in this workshop:

  • What's parental alienation anyway? — including different outcomes of alienation and alienation in its simplest definition

  • Is it alienation? A handy dandy checklist!

  • How alienation affects blending your family — we talk about the parent/child relationship, the stepparent/stepkid relationship, the impact of alienation on you as a stepcouple, and the impact of alienation on any other kids in the house

  • How to fight alienation, including documentation tips

  • Parenting to the authentic child

  • There is hope! Tips from a formerly alienated kid

And we host a Q&A at the end answering questions on:

  • Whether to enforce visitation

  • Alienation + therapists / custody evaluators

  • Should we reduce visitation?

  • Should we keep inviting alienated stepkid to family events?

If you have any questions we didn’t cover, please leave them in the comments or send ‘em over for our weekly Q&A!
