🤨 Disengaging for the holidays?

The intersection of holiday expectations + stepping back + maybe even some gratitude in there someplace.

Stepparents have a tendency to over-give, and never does this trend become more apparent than during the holidays. For myself, I was so determined to find some way our stepfamily could resemble a regular family this time of year that I just about killed myself trying to make our limited time together perfect.

Why I thought that was a realistic goal when none of our other time together was perfect, I honestly couldn’t tell you. I mean if the kids were determined to be surly and withdrawn (man tweens are the worst), obviously turkey dinner together was not gonna change that.
